TAGLIABUE TO MEET WITH DEBARTOLO, SISTER TO RESOLVE DISPUTE

NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue "said he plans to meet"
with 49ers co-Owners Eddie DeBartolo and his sister Denise
DeBartolo York in February "to help resolve their dispute
over control of the team," according to Clark Judge of the
SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. DeBartolo "is expected to sell" his
50% share of the team to his sister "when an agreement
anticipated since summer is completed." DeBartolo, who has
been suspended from running the team for the last year, "is
eligible to return as active owner" after February 1, but
Tagliabue said that he "foresees" DeBartolo York operating
the 49ers "for the foreseeable future" (MERCURY NEWS, 1/29).
DeBartolo York exec Sam Singer: "I can say unequivocally,
there has been no discussion ever of selling the [49ers] by
the Yorks." Singer added that the Yorks "have been looking
to hire a team president who will control the business and
marketing side of the organization as well as spearhead the
stalled stadium/mall project" (CONTRA COSTA TIMES, 1/29).
