          MLB: In N.Y., Bill Madden wrote that MLB Commissioner
     Bud Selig "was said to be furious at" the $140M, eight-year
     contract the Tigers reportedly offered LF Juan Gonzalez
     (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/30)....Reds Majority Owner Carl Lindner,
     on Royals CEO David Glass' bid to purchase the Royals: "We'd
     be jumping up and down.  He would be super for baseball. 
     We'd be lucky to have him" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 1/30).
          NOTES: In Dallas, Bart Hubbuch wrote that Mavericks
     players have been "impressed" with Owner Mark Cuban's
     "generosity," as he sent limos to take each player to and
     from Thursday's game "because of icy conditions in the
     area."  Cuban is also "providing a post-game food spread"
     for the team and has "upgraded several of the team's hotels
     on the road" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 1/29)....In Raleigh,
     Cecil Harris reports that the Hurricanes are expected to
     announce a "front-office restructuring" this week that
     "would have a new" president report to GM Jim Rutherford.  A
     source said the new president "would oversee the team's
     business affairs" (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 1/31).
