NAMES IN THE NEWS

          ESPN's Bob Ley reported that former Nebraska football
     coach TOM OSBORNE will run as a Republican to replace the
     retiring U.S. Rep. BILL BARRETT (R-NE).  Ley reported that
     while Osborne is a "huge favorite for election," he "gave no
     thought for the Senate seat being vacated by BOB KERRY"
     ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 1/27)....NASCAR Senior VP/Marketing
     BRIAN FRANCE, on SMI Chair BRUTON SMITH'S comments that
     Winston Cup drivers are making enough money: "That to me is
     offensive, to the drives and to us. Bruton's got all those
     car dealerships, and I wonder if he's really focusing enough
     time on this sport" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 1/27)....NHL Wild
     VP/Communications & Broadcasting BILL ROBERTSON was named
     one of the "100 People To Watch" by MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL
     magazine, which stated that Robertson "could be named the
     Wild's president or to a key position within the new Twins
     partnership" (2/00 issue)....During his State of the Union
     address last night, PRESIDENT CLINTON paid tribute to MLB
     HOFer HANK AARON, who was seated in the gallery next to
     First Lady HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON.  Clinton on Aaron: "From
     his days as our all-time home run king to his recent acts of
     healing, he has always brought people together.  We should
     follow his example and we're honored to have him with us
     tonight."  Aaron received a standing ovation.  U.S. women's
     soccer team member JULIE FOUDY was a guest of President
     Clinton's and sat next to his daughter CHELSEA (THE DAILY).
