RAVENS COME KNOCKING ON YALE'S CHAMBER DOOR FOR NAME DEAL

The Double-A New Haven (CT) Ravens were "set to
announce a sponsorship deal" Thursday to change the name of
Yale Univ.'s Yale Field to Claritybank.com Stadium, but
"nobody told Yale," according to Roberto Gonzales of the
HARTFORD COURANT. Yale owns naming rights to the ballpark
and "when Yale officials discovered what the Ravens were
doing, they stopped it." Under terms of the lease agreement
with Yale, the Ravens were allowed to file a request with
the school "for permission to sell the naming rights" to
Yale Field. Ravens GM Chris Canetti said that the team's
lawyers "misinterpreted the lease agreement," which led to
the "reportedly" one-year, $100,000 deal to be put on hold.
The Ravens have since filed a request for permission to sell
rights, yet Yale officials "don't sound too keen on the
idea." Canetti, on the potential deal he termed a "horrible
mistake": "It's crushing us" (HARTFORD COURANT, 1/26).
