ANOTHER GREAT ONE FOR A-B? GRETZKY FEATURED IN SUPER BOWL AD

One of "only about four" A-B spots that has "already
made the cut" for ABC's broadcast of Super Bowl XXXIV
features Wayne Gretzky, according to Al Stamborski of the
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, who reported that the company is
"still mulling over which 8 or 10" ads it will run during
the game "from a crop of 25 or 30 new ones." In the spot,
Gretzky "reminds" a friend at a bar that "he is the
designated driver" and "drives his buddy home -- in a
Zamboni." The ad uses the tag, "Every designated driver is
a great one." Another ad that will run during the game is
part of the new "Wassup" campaign that "focus[es] on young
men ... doing their version of male bonding." A-B VP/Brand
Management Bob Lachky said that the spot featuring the birth
of a Clydesdale (see THE DAILY, 1/13) is "classy and simple"
and "should stand out from all the zany ads that usually
dominate" the Super Bowl. But "missing" from A-B's in-game
effort are Frank and Louie, as the lizards "will be seen
     only" during the pre-game show (POST-DISPATCH, 1/22).
