FRANCHISE NOTES

In Denver, Karen Abbott reports that Avalanche season-
ticket holder Jeff Brooks has filed suit against the team in
small claims court in Denver. Brooks is "seeking" $1,763
from the Avalanche because he says the "view from his seats"
at the Pepsi Center is "obstructed by metal bars and
plexiglass." The trial is set for February 24 (ROCKY
MOUNTAIN NEWS, 1/21)....While Devils Owner John McMullen was
"scheduled to sign off today on a firm date for the
transfer" of his team to YankeeNets, the sale "could be
delayed" by his "desire to stay at the helm" for the team's
playoff run. YankeeNets execs are now "hoping McMullen will
agree to a 'soft closing' date," which would "allow [him] to
retain ownership" through the playoffs. But a "senior
official close to" YankeeNets said, "I don't think it's a
deal buster" (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 1/21)....The Blue Jays
will "sport a new logo" in spring training and batting
practice before regular season games. New hats will
"feature a logo with a large red letter T ... with a blue
jay holding a bat and ball wrapping a muscular arm/wing
around the T." The hats with the "traditional logo" will
continue to be worn during regular season games (CP, 1/21).
