          GARBER TO GET NEW AID: In N.Y., Michael Lewis cites
     sources as saying that MetroStars GM Charlie Stillitano
     "could wind up" in the MLS league office as an assistant to
     Commissioner Don Garber.  Stillitano would be in charge of
     int'l soccer affairs (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/11).
          OFFICIALS OK CONDON DEAL: The NFL officials' Exec Board
     voted to keep IMG's Tom Condon as their negotiating agent. 
     The board interviewed seven candidates (USA TODAY, 1/11).
          NOTES: In Ft. Lauderdale, Randall Mell writes on the
     LPGA Tour's "Night of Champions," a "celebration" of the
     Tour's 50th anniversary season, at a $1,000-a-plate dinner
     held at The Breakers in Palm Beach, FL.  Mell: "The LPGA
     must be doing something right.  It keeps growing.  Purses
     will exceed a record $36 million this year.  That inaugural
     year, purses totaled $50,000" (Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL,
     1/11)....USATF CEO Craig Masback announced a five-meet
     indoor schedule for the 2000 Golden Spike Tour, one more
     than '99.  Each meet will be on network TV, "some live and
     some on tape delay."   The average TV rating for track and
     field telecasts in '99 was more than 2.0 (AP, 1/11).
