LEAGUE NOTES

AFL LABOR WOES? In Orlando, Jerry Greene wrote on the
"first labor dispute" for the AFL, as "there's a
concentrated effort going on to form a players association,"
and players are "threatening" to go to court citing
antitrust allegations. AFL Commissioner David Baker said
such an effort is a potential "fatal blow to the game and
the league." Greene: "At the moment, next season doesn't
appear to be in jeopardy, but changes will have to be made.
Health insurance and pension plans must be discussed just
     for starters" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 1/8).
RACING NEWS: In Charlotte, Utter & Poole reported that
Busch Grand National team co-Owner Joe Washington will "work
in an advisory role with NASCAR on the company's diversity
initiatives." The effort will include "creating a
diversity council, developing internship programs" at
NASCAR's Charlotte, N.Y. and Daytona Beach offices and with
teams, sponsors and tracks and "the implementation of a
diversity training program" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 1/8).
