ROCHESTER HOPES TO CATCH MLS' EYE WITH $44M STADIUM PLAN

The A-League Rochester Rhinos soccer team will unveil
plans Tuesday to build a $44M soccer stadium, according to
Jeff DiVeronica of the Rochester DEMOCRAT & CHRONICLE. The
"multipurpose stadium," designed by Kansas City-based
HOK+LOB, would be used by the Rhinos, who have averaged
crowds of more than 11,000 fans for the past four years.
While Rochester would like to land an MLS franchise, the
league has said that if Rochester had its own facility, the
city will "be one of the top candidates for an expansion
team in 2001 or 2002." Though they will "need financial
help, the Rhinos "have pledged to pay about" $25M toward the
stadium, which could be used to host football, lacrosse and
concerts. Naming rights could also be sold to help finance
the facility (Rochester DEMOCRAT & CHRONICLE, 1/9).
