WHEREVER YOU GO: In Cincinnati, John Eckberg reported
that the buzz on Stadium Pal, a "concealed portable urinal
worn by sports fans," has increased since it was featured in
SI last month. Stadium Pal Product Developer Jeff Luckey
said that the product's Web site, www.stadiumpal.com,
received 2,000 hits after the SI mention. Prior to the
article, the site averaged about 3,000 hits a month. The
Stadium Pal retails for $24.95 and includes an "assortment
of sizes." Luckey has sold about 170 units so far with
orders coming from GA to Japan (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 1/9).
NOTES: In Detroit, Joe Falls wrote on Comerica Park
under the header, "New Ballpark Feels Flawed." Falls: "I'm
afraid they're going to have a sun problem. By facing the
ballpark south to take advantage of the skyline, they will
have the sun coming in over the right-field roof" (DETROIT
NEWS, 1/9)....In Boston, Phil Primack wrote that MA House
Speaker Thomas Finneran and others are "quietly floating the
idea of a public stadium authority to build and own" a new
ballpark that the Red Sox "would then lease." Primack: "The
approach could be positive for both the Red Sox and the
public. But only if the authority is structured and
operated in a way that protects and promotes the public
interest first" (BOSTON GLOBE, 1/8)....Maple Leaf Sports &
Entertainment President & CEO Richard Peddie, who attended
Friday's Raptors-Hawks game, on Philips Arena's luxury boxes
all located on one side of the facility: "When you hear
that, your first thought is that it's going to look quite
strange. But now that I'm here, that's really not the case
at all. It's very impressive" (TORONTO SUN, 1/8).
