FRANCHISE NOTES

CBS SportsLine's Mike Kahn writes that prospective
Grizzlies Owner Bill Laurie "might get the Grizzlies in
purchase and move them to St. Louis after all." Kahn notes
that Laurie "jumped back into the picture" when it was
"becoming apparent no locals were stepping up" to acquire
the franchise (CBS SportsLine, 12/21)....In Toronto, Marty
York writes that former Blue Jays President and MLB COO Paul
Beeston "has been renting space" at SkyDome offices since
becoming COO in '97. But a source with the Blue Jays said
that officials with the team's owner, Interbrew, "want
Beeston out of the Dome" because they are "upset with
Beeston over several issues," including his decision to
leave the team. But Blue Jays VP/Marketing Terry Zuk said
the reason for Beeston's departure is that the team is
"short of space" (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 12/21)....ESPN's
David Aldridge reported the Wizards air-brushed Allen
Iverson's tattoos off their game night program against the
76ers last month. Aldridge: "What was the point? Were they
trying to make some kind of personal statement about
acceptable appearance and what isn't acceptable appearance
and why don't they let the public decide?" (ESPN, 12/20).
