FEED THE FEVER? NEW WNBA TEAM INTRODUCES NAME AND LOGO

Indiana's WNBA expansion franchise announced Friday
that the team will be called the Fever, according to Sean
Horgan of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. Fever execs "hope the new
name -- and the circular logo in red and Pacers blue-and-
gold -- also will connect the fledgling franchise to hoops-
mad Hoosier Nation." Horgan noted that the name "offers
endless marketing links, including the obvious 'Catch the
Fever,'" but the team isn't looking to "emphasize the
medical-malady aspect of the new name." Fever COO Kelly
Krauskopf: "We didn't concentrate on the medical side of it.
We were drawn more to the emotional and passionate side of
the word." Names also considered included the "Pride,"
which Pacers Senior VP/Basketball Administration David
Morway said faced a possible legal challenge from CT's CBA
team. Krauskopf: "We also wanted to create our own brand
identity in this market, which is why we didn't go with a
car racing thing." Horgan, on the Fever: "What now, a
thermometer as a mascot?" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 12/18).
