COYOTES PLAN TO CONTINUE UNIQUE NEW BROADCASTING ANGLE

Coyotes VP/Broadcasting Mark Hulsey said the team will
again feature a camera angle from three robotic cameras
mounted two feet above the glass at mid-ice and at each end
of the ice during a future broadcast. The Coyotes used the
same cameras during their November 20 game against the
Blackhawks (see THE DAILY, 11/18) and fans offered their
opinion by calling a phone number and voting on
PhoenixCoyotes.com. Of 3,454 responses, 53% approved of the
cameras, but 47% opposed. Hulsey told THE DAILY, "We're
going to try it again ... hopefully in February or March."
Hulsey said one broadcast with five cameras and three replay
tape machines costs about $10,000, but this special
broadcast cost "roughly" $12,000. Hulsey: "We're trying to
appeal to the non-hockey fans and appeal to the grace and
style of the game. ... One fan told me, 'I don't like hockey
because I can't follow the puck on TV, but this was the only
time I could actually follow the puck'" (THE DAILY).
