CARL LEWIS SAYS GM'S CAR GIVEAWAY BEST KEPT AWAY FROM IOC

          GM and the United Auto Workers announced the names of
     100 U.S. Olympic team hopefuls who will receive new GM cars 
     as part of GM's "The Team Behind The Team Program" (GM). 
     Carl Lewis was in N.Y. yesterday to assist GM in announcing
     the program: "These cars are not given to the federation and
     passed out.  Could you imagine giving the I.O.C. 100 cars
     and saying, 'Pass these out to the athletes?'  Come on. 
     They'd probably take them to a dealer and trade them in for
     a few more expensive ones" (N.Y. TIMES, 12/17).
