LEAGUE NOTES: TWO COLUMNISTS TRUMPET WNBA SUCCESS

          In the SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, Women's Sports
     Foundation Exec Dir Donna Lopiano writes that when WNBA
     attendance "dropped slightly" last year, the "vultures
     circled ... they thought it was time to feast on the
     carcass" of the league.  But Lopiano writes, "It is a real
     testament to the strength of the WNBA that it not only
     survived the attack of the naysaying vultures, but it
     actually flourished in 1999. ... The WNBA proves there is an
     audience for women's sports" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL,
     12/13).  CBS SportsLine's Clay Kallam, "Sure, the WNBA has
     its problems, but [pro] sports in general are suffering. ...
     The WNBA is holding steady (CBS SportsLine, 12/14).
