TURNER LAYS OFF MURDOCH; SAYS HE HAS NO INTEREST IN NFL

Time Warner Vice Chair TED TURNER was a guest on "Larry
King Live" last night and talked about his relationship with
News Corp. Chair RUPERT MURDOCH: "I don't think he likes me
and the feeling is shared, but we're not insulting each
other on a daily basis anymore." Turner, asked if he has an
interest in owning an NFL team: "Not particularly. The main
reason that I got into the sports business was because of
the television. Forever, the television of the NFL went
with the networks. They didn't have local television and I
was a local broadcaster. So the NFL didn't bring us [TBS]
the kind of synergy that the other three sports did."
Turner, on the profitability of WCW: "When I say it's not
     profitable, it's not profitable as a stand-alone entity. I
think the ratings and the programming it gives us makes it
overall a good thing for us to be in" (CNN, 12/13).
