In Detroit, Kupelian & O'Hara wrote that "word in the
investment community" is that Comerica, which holds naming
rights to the Tigers' new ballpark, is "ripe for a takeover
by one of the banking industry's giants" and that Wells
Fargo "has been mentioned." Kupelian & O'Hara wondered if
Comerica is "taken over, what happens to the name of
Comerica Park." Comerica VP/Corporate Communications Wayne
Mielke: "We know how to protect our franchise. When the
park opens April 11, it's going to bear our name. The park
is a huge source of pride for this company" (DETROIT NEWS,
12/12)....Steelers VP Art Rooney is "advocating a 'large
entertainment district' for the area between" the team's new
stadium and the Pirates' new ballpark. Rooney has talked to
city officials about the "possibility of putting a large
arcade filled with high-tech games on one of the parcells"
between the facilities, and he mentioned Disney and Sony as
possible partners. Rooney also named an ESPNZone as another
development possibility (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 12/14).
