EPLAY.COM? NFL.COM TO LAUNCH ONLINE AUCTION FEATURE

NFL.com "will soon debut an auction capability" as part
of its plans to "ramp up e-commerce efforts for holiday
shopping, according to Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK, who notes
the feature "would be a first for a sports property." NFLP
Senior VP/Marketing Howard Handler offered "few details" on
the plan, but "expects high-margin items like game-worn
jerseys to be among" items auctioned. Handler added that
the NFL's direct-response business, "operated via a joint
venture with Venator" and boosted by increased Internet,
print and direct-response TV ads, "surpassed '99 totals just
10 weeks into the current season." Lefton: "Look for a
bigger push during the post season" (BRANDWEEK, 12/13).
