SPORTS ON THE WEB, PART II: FOXSPORTS.COM GOES REGIONAL

FoxSports.com has launched 18 regional Web sites that
allow browsers to follow local teams online, while offering
a "new vehicle for local advertisers to reach their
audiences." The regional sites offer live Webcasts of local
sports programming, including news conferences, magazine
shows and live events. Fox Sports Online VP Danny Greenburg
said that the regional online network "follows the model of
     Fox's 22 regional sports networks" (REUTERS, 12/8).
OFFLINE: CNBC's Jerry Cobb reported that Disney's
Go.com generated $200M in online revenue during FY '99, but
had an overall $1B loss. The site "is still in investment
mode," and despite having "popular" sites such as ESPN.com
and ABC.com, Cobb noted that Disney "is still a long way
from enjoying profits off the Internet" (CNBC, 12/9).
HITS KEEP COMING? SI's John Walters writes on the boost
Pete Rose's reinstatement bid gave to the launch of
sportcut.com. Nielsen Net/Ratings said the site received 12
million hits on its launch date, "a record for a sports Web
site." Worldwide Entertainment & Sports CEO & President
Marc Roberts: "We figure that we got [the equivalent of] $50
million worth of advertising" (SI, 12/13 issue).
