CBC'S SPORTS VET ALAN CLARK MOVES INTO BIZ DEVELOPMENT ROLE

CBC Sports announced yesterday a "front-office
restructuring" in which CBC Sports Dir ALAN CLARK will move
into the "newly created" position of Exec Dir of Business
Development for Sports. CBC Deputy Head of Sports NANCY LEE
"will succeed" Clark with a new title, Exec Dir of Sports.
Clark will "develop business and partnership opportunities
for sports" (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 12/10). In Toronto,
Chris Zelkovich writes that new changes "could see the CBC
producing sports for Headline Sports or other cable
networks. It could even run a network, say like Sportsnet
if the [Canadian Radio-TV Telecomm Commission] orders it
sold off." Clark: "There's no reason we can't produce
hockey or baseball or football for somebody else" (TORONTO
STAR, 12/10). Also in Toronto, Mike Ganter: "At first
glance, it appears to be quite a shakeup, but in reality the
CBC sports department has been running this way for the
better part of the past six months" (TORONTO SUN, 12/10).
