U.S. WOMEN BLAST FIFA FOR MOVING WOMEN'S WORLD CUP DATE

          The U.S. women's soccer team "believes FIFA has made a
     mistake in switching" the Women's World Cup to 2002, the
     same year as the Men's World Cup in Japan and South Korea,
     and "have promised to fight the move," according to Grahame
     Jones of the L.A. TIMES.  U.S. MF Julie Foudy: "It's
     ridiculous.  It's crazy.  We're going to fight that." 
     Brandi Chastain added, "This summer was an indication of how
     well this tournament can do own its own.  There's no need to
     piggy-back it with the men's tournament.  The tournament
     needs to be a stand-alone event" (L.A. TIMES, 12/10).
