DALE IN BROWN? UPS CLOSE TO NASCAR DEAL, EYES CUP CHAMPION

          UPS is "close to signing a five-year deal making it the
     official overnight delivery service" of NASCAR, according to
     Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK, who reports that the "package was
     pegged at roughly" $3.5M and will launch around the Daytona
     500 in February.  UPS "hopes to leverage" the sponsorship
     with a NASCAR racecar "patterned after its trademark brown
     panel trucks."  The company is "hoping to land a lead
     sponsorship" with '99 Winston Cup champion Dale Jarrett, but
     since "that won't be available until after" the 2000 season,
     its "debate is whether or not to go with some lesser
     drivers, or wait a year and leverage only the 'league' deal"
     next year (BRANDWEEK, 11/29 issue).
