LOOK AT WHAT LOVE BUILT: SINGERS HELP MAINTAIN LPGA EVENT

The LPGA Tour's Sara Lee Classic event in Nashville,
TN, which "ended a 12-year run" last spring after title
sponsor Sara Lee "did not renew its contract," has been
replaced with the Electrolux USA Championship, hosted by
Vince Gill and Amy Grant, according to Joe Biddle of the
Nashville TENNESSEAN. The new event is a "combination" of
Gill's annual celebrity tournament and pro-am and the former
Sara Lee event. Electrolux USA has signed a three-year
contract that "guarantees a CBS telecast of the LPGA
tournament for the first year." The tournament's purse of
$800,000 is a $50,000 increase from the final Sara Lee
Classic (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 11/24). Tournament Dir Clyde
Russell said the LPGA put the deal together with Charlotte-
based Raycom Sports "during the past six weeks." Russell:
"This is a pretty big statement that even with the Titans,
the Predators and everything else already here, the LPGA is
     coming back" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 11/24).
