NO MORE TEARS: JOHNSON & JOHNSON HEIR FAVORITE TO LAND JETS?

The sale of the Jets "is entering the home stretch," as
Johnson & Johnson heir Robert Wood Johnson Jr. is "moving
into serious contention" to buy the team from the estate of
late Owner Leon Hess, according to Leonard Shapiro of the
WASHINGTON POST. Sources say that Johnson is "apparently
leading the pack," followed by Cablevision Chair Charles
Dolan and AZ real estate developer Sam Grossman. But of the
three, Johnson "may have the easiest time passing muster
with NFL owners," as league sources say that Dolan and
Grossman "each have issues that may not appeal to other
owners and the league office." One team owner said that a
Johnson bid for the team "would essentially be airtight if
he is willing to go to about" $600M (WASH. POST, 11/24).
