FORD FIELD WILL BE BUILT W/OUT GRASS -- AT LEAST TEMPORARILY

          The Lions "couldn't come up with a solution" to have
     "real grass" in Ford Field, their new $300M domed stadium,
     so it "will have to be built with artificial turf, at least
     for now," according to Tina Lam of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. 
     Lions Dir of Stadium Development Tom Lewand: "We'd like to
     have natural grass, but right now, we just don't feel like
     the technology is there yet."  Lam reports that the Lions'
     architects are "designing a field that can be modified later
     to accommodate real grass" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 11/24).
