HOWARD'S END? EDWARD MILSTEIN WANTS TO BUY ISLANDERS

Isles co-Owner Edward Milstein "wants to buy a majority
share of the team" from his brother Howard and co-Owner
Steven Gluckstern, according to Alan Hahn of NEWSDAY, who
writes that Edward "might" be the "savior" of the franchise.
Since August, a group led by former MSG President Bob
Gutkowski has been in talks to buy the team, but a person
familiar with the negotiations said that Gutkowski's group
"has not produced the finances to buy the team and has
hedged on different parts of the deal." A source within the
NHL's administration said that the league "doesn't expect a
sale to the Gutkowski group to occur soon." On Sunday,
Gutkowski said "negotiations are continuing and moving
toward some sort of closure. We're still very interested."
But Edward Milstein said that the Gutkowski group "has run
out of time already." He added that "a deadline for the
deal to be completed or killed is at the end of the month."
That is when he will "raise the capital to buy out the other
two owners for a majority share" (NEWSDAY, 11/16).
