WHILE MAPLE LEAF GARDENS ON THE BLOCK, MLSE HOLDS FIRM

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) "wants to
sell" Maple Leaf Gardens, but if the new owners "tear down
or overhaul" the arena a memorandum states that "they'll
have to give all the seats, signs and even bricks" to MLSE
"for a probable multi-million dollar selloff as souvenirs,"
according to Tony Van Alphen of the TORONTO STAR, who
reports the arena "could attract" offers of more than C$25M.
The memorandum also says that MLSE "will keep the rights to
all" 15,726 seats, signage, furniture, concession equipment
and other fixtures. A new owner "won't be able to operate"
Maple Leaf Gardens as a "sporting complex" competing against
Air Canada Centre (TORONTO STAR, 11/12). Operating revenue
at the arena will total C$4.4M this year. In Toronto, Karen
Howlett writes that MLSE is "targeting" sports and
entertainment companies and retail and residential
developers (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 11/12).
