NAMES IN THE NEWS

          KUDOS & SALUTATIONS: Among BRANDWEEK's "Marketers Of
     The Next Generation" include Monster.com CEO JEFF TAYLOR,
     NFL Int'l Senior VP and Managing Dir DOUG QUINN and ESPN
     Senior VP/Marketing LEE ANN DALY.  Taylor is noted for using
     sports to build his company's brand name; Quinn, "though
     loose in style [has] shown a linebacker's stamina in selling
     the NFL overseas"; Daly says, "From a brand positioning
     standpoint, I don't want viewers thinking of ESPN as a huge
     network as much as I want them to feel like we're the
     biggest sports fan they know" (BRANDWEEK, 11/8 issue).
     ..BRILL's CONTENT released its list of the "most influential
     people" in media and noted ESPN Senior VP and ESPN Magazine
     Exec Editor JOHN WALSH, who "sits atop a giant multimedia
     sports journalism empire" (BRILL'S CONTENT, 11/99 issue).
          NAMES: Former IAAF President PRIMO NEBIOLO was
     "remembered as one of the century's great sports leaders"
     during a 45-minute memorial service attended by about 300
     people yesterday in Rome, Italy (N.Y. TIMES, 11/10)....NFL
     Giants CB JASON SEHORN's foundation, SEHORN'S CORNER
     FOUNDATION, held a fund raising dinner for single-parent
     families last night that "grossed" more than $100,000
     (NEWSDAY, 11/10)....On "ET," Mary Hart reported that next
     month's Vanity Fair issue features a photo essay of the
     "most influential people" of '99.  Athletes included:
     MICHAEL JORDAN, WAYNE GRETZKY and JOHN ELWAY posing together
     in one photo, MIA HAMM in another, and LANCE ARMSTRONG
     posing nude on a bike.  Vanity Fair Features Editor Jane
     Sarkin, on Armstrong: "They had clothes for him, they had t-
     shirts and underwear for him, and he said, 'I want to do
     this naked'" ("Entertainment Tonight," 11/9).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth.
