The Miles Prentice ownership group "has sent a letter"
to the Royals Board of Directors asking the team to
"politely press" MLB for a response regarding the group's
bid for the team, according to Steve Rock of the K.C. STAR.
The letter "reiterated Prentice's commitment to buying the
club but demonstrated an undercurrent of increased anxiety."
The letter states, "Please give Major League Baseball's
leaders a call for precision in their expression of concerns
about our proposal. Please give us a chance to respond to
those concerns." The letter then "speculates as to why" MLB
may be "disenchanted" with the Prentice group's $75M bid: "I
have heard from some that the issue for [MLB] may be the
price the Prentice group is paying for the team, that this
price would somehow diminish the value of other franchises
in other markets. The price of last week's sale of the
Cleveland Indians [$320M] surely shows this concern to be
unfounded." But the league responded yesterday upon
learning of the letter by "reiterating their stance that the
Royals need to seek `additional alternatives' to Prentice in
their quest for a new owner" (K.C. STAR, 11/10). In K.C.,
Joe Posnanski writes that team CEO David Glass should be the
next owner. Posnanski: "The [MLB team] owners do want
Glass. They will listen to Glass" (K.C. STAR, 11/10).
