manager Jack McKeon signing a one-year contract extension,
at 6:00 into the broadcast. CNN/SI's 11:00pm ET edition of
"Sports Tonight" led with the Stewart memorial and
tournament highlights, followed by a World Series wrap-up at
6:14 into the broadcast. FSN's 11:00pm ET edition of
"Primetime" (Fox Sports Net South) led with a report on
Yankees GM Brian Cashman possibly resigning, followed at
1:30 by the Dodgers hiring Bob Daly as Chair & CEO, and the
Stewart memorial and highlights at 3:01 (THE DAILY).
ABC WON'T ABDICATE THE CROWN: USA TODAY's Rudy Martzke
reports that ABC has decided to televise the 2000 Triple
Crown before NBC takes over the contract in 2001 (USA TODAY,
10/29). Triple Crown Productions is "looking for a buyer
for overseas broadcasting and betting rights" for the racing
series. Triple Crown President Thomas Meeker: "There's a
terrific opportunity to distribute the Triple Crown races
into international markets" (LX HERALD-LEADER, 10/29).
NOTES: USA Network Chair & CEO Barry Diller said that
USA plans to add a fifth cable TV network "within six
months, and may buy more TV stations" (REUTERS, 10/29).
DAILY VARIETY's Jill Goldsmith writes that a "likely ally in
that venture is said to be Walt Disney." USA President &
COO Barry Baker "played up the sports angle, noting that
USA's station launches in Dallas and Atlanta this Saturday
follow multiyear deals" recently announced with the
Mavericks and Hawks (DAILY VARIETY, 10/29)....ESPN will
unveil its "SuperStrator" on "Sunday Night Football," which
"makes telestrator marks crisper and allows them to be drawn
