BUCS TO IMPOSE SURCHARGE TO PAY FOR FUTURE STADIUM REPAIRS

The Pirates have "worked out" a 5% surcharge on tickets
for the 2000 season at Three Rivers Stadium to build up a
"capital repair and improvement account" for future repairs
at PNC Park, according to Tom Barnes of the PITTSBURGH POST-
GAZETTE. Local city and county execs "expect to collect
nearly" $6M, or $3M each for PNC Park and the Steelers' new
stadium by the end of 2001. Stadium Authority Exec Dir
Stephen Leeper said that "most of that money" will come from
the ticket surcharge, with $700,000 expected from a new tax
on players' salaries. Including the 5% surcharge, Pirates
tickets for 2000 will range from $3 for youth general
admission to $20 for an infield box (POST-GAZETTE, 10/28).
