TWO NBA GAMES EARN PROFIT AT PEPSI ARENA DESPITE CROWDS

          Albany, N.Y.'s Pepsi Arena "made a profit" of close to
     $20,000 for the Nets-Hawks NBA preseason game October 12 and
     "should earn more than" $40,000 from last Monday's Knicks-
     Wizards game, according to Mark Singelais of the Albany
     TIMES UNION. The Nets-Hawks game drew "only" 2,514, the
     smallest crowd in nine years, while the Knicks-Wizards drew
     8,221, the "second-lowest turnout" in six years for a Knicks
     appearance.  Arena GM Bob Belber said that neither the Hawks
     nor the Nets were paid a guarantee to appear, but the arena
     paid a guarantee to the Knicks (TIMES UNION, 10/27).
