PGA Tour officials have "elected to give players the
option of attending memorial services" for Payne Stewart on
Friday in Orlando by canceling play on Friday at the Tour
Championship in Houston, according to Eddie Sefko of the
HOUSTON CHRONICLE. With the canceled day, 27 holes will
instead be played on Thursday and Saturday. Fans holding
tickets for Friday's rounds "can use those tickets Thursday,
Saturday or Sunday." The Tour is also "working on getting
several private jets to shuttle players to and from
Orlando." The memorial service is scheduled for 11:00am ET.
ABC's weekend broadcast schedule for the Tour Championship
"will remain the same" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 10/27). There
will be a "brief memorial service" for Stewart tomorrow
morning on the first tee at the Champions Golf Club (N.Y.
TIMES, 10/22). In Dallas, Brad Townsend: "If Tuesday's
gloomy atmosphere at Champions is any indication, it's going
to be a long, strange, hollow week. And no one will feel
particularly rewarded, not even the guy who wins the
$900,000 first-place check" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 10/27).
The PGA Tour's Southern Farm Bureau Classic in MS will also
not be played Friday, with 18 holes scheduled for Thursday,
Saturday and Sunday. A memorial service for Stewart will be
held in MS tomorrow night (WASHINGTON POST, 10/27).
