AND 1 ANNOUNCES WEB STRATEGY LARGELY BASED ON E-TAILING

AND 1 is "attempting to make a pre-emptive strike" on
the Web with the launch of HoopsTV.com as a Web destination
for "hoops junkies," according to Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK.
The site, established as a "separate entity" of AND 1, has
raised more than $15M through private financing. AND 1
Founder Seth Berger: "We have the relationships, we know the
consumer, so if we can get out fast and take advantage of
being the first mover, it will work." Content will include
"playground video licensed from premier courts, like
Harlem's Rucker League." There will also be a "property
'zine, video games and e-tailing." Berger said that "most"
of the $15M raised will go to marketing and that "E-tailing,
licensing out our content, and sponsorship" will be revenue
streams for the site (BRANDWEEK, 10/25 issue).
