JOHN HARRINGTON DENIES RUMOR OF SOX SALE TO TEAM PARTNER

          Red Sox CEO John Harrington denied a story "making the
     rounds" yesterday that Red Sox limited partner Harry Alfond
     "had made a serious offer" to buy the Red Sox, according to
     Will McDonough of the BOSTON GLOBE.  Alfond's attorney Greg
     Powell said that there is "no truth whatsoever" to the
     speculation.  Powell: "Mr. Alfond thinks the world of John
     Harrington and what he is doing with the team.  There is no
     story here" (BOSTON GLOBE, 10/26).
