FRANCHISE NOTES

NEWSDAY's Jon Heyman reports that Yankees GM Brian
Cashman "has not been allowed" on the field since Yankees
Owner George Steinbrenner "accused him of being a media
hound, which explains why he did interviews yesterday while
leaning on the dugout railing" (NEWSDAY, 10/25)....Raptors
coach Butch Carter "hinted" that Percy "Master P" Miller
"would make his final 12-man roster if the decision rested
in his hands," as he says that "many people are buying
tickets just to glimpse Master P." Carter: "I would keep
him. I think he's a serious drawing card" (FT. WORTH STAR-
TELEGRAM, 10/23). But in Toronto, Chris Young wrote that
Miller is "not good enough to be an NBA player." Young: "Do
the Raptors really want to risk their hard-fought, rising
credibility for what amounts to a craven publicity stunt?"
(TORONTO STAR, 10/23)....The WNBA "officially awarded"
franchises to Seattle, Miami, Indianapolis and Portland on
Friday. The Seattle team agreed with the City of Seattle on
leasing KeyArena for $20,000 per game (SEATTLE P-I, 10/23).
