THE BLAME GAME: MORE FALLOUT FROM PARROTT'S SLIP UP ON AIR

Dale Jarrett's crew chief Todd Parrott wrote a letter
of apology printed in various media outlets today for
cursing while he was miked during Sunday's Winston 500,
which was broadcast on ESPN. Parrott: "The language I chose
to use was unprofessional and in extremely poor taste. ... I
take full responsibility for my actions and am truly sorry
for my conduct" (Mult., 10/22). SPEEDNET's Mike Snow writes
under the header, "NASCAR Needs To Look At Who Is Really
Responsible For Expletive Airing." Snow: "What the ESPN
director was thinking at the time is unknown, but sources
close to the situation have ESPN throwing Parrott under the
bus with the denial it offered the delay. ... To add insult
to injury, ESPN replayed the race Sunday night, and guess
what was part of the broadcast -- that's right -- Parrott's
comment. ... It could only be assumed that ESPN couldn't
care, not one little bit, about the viewer's sensibilities
     -- or Parrott's .... apology" (SPEEDNET, 10/22).
