USSERY SAYS MAVS LOST $1M LAST YEAR, TICKET RENEWALS DOWN

Mavericks CEO Terdema Ussery said that the team lost
more than $1M last season despite an increase in average
     attendance from 13,208 in '97-98 to 14,513 in '98-99,
according to Dwain Price of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM.
The lockout, which cost the team 16 home dates, was a factor
in the loss, and Ussery said the team needs to start winning
to boost revenues. Ussery: "We just have to win games."
The team has sold 7,870 season tickets, which is about 9%
below last season's figure of 8,250. Ussery: "From a
revenue perspective, because of the mild increase that we
had in ticket prices, the gross revenue is running a little
bit ahead of where we were last year. The latest on
sponsorships is we're running about 89 percent in terms of
renewals of the sponsors that we had last year coming back.
... We lost some sponsors -- but ... we've picked up some
new sponsors" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 10/18).
