during the "It Happens" segment on "Sports Tonight." The
number was well received by anchors Fred Hickman and Vince
Cellini. Cellini: "I'm tellin' you man, this thing rocks."
Hickman: "It's gonna go" (CNN/SI, 10/14).
OTHER NAMES: In DC, Daniel LeDuc reports that MD
officials are "embroiled in discussions" over the fee to be
paid to Orioles Owner PETER ANGELOS for "handling" MD's
lawsuit in ligitation against national tobacco interests.
Angelos has a three-year contract with MD to pay him 25% of
the "proceeds from the litigation," or about $1B (WASHINGTON
POST, 10/15). In Baltimore, Scott Shane reports that the
fee for Angelos' firm "comes down to" $22,000 an hour for
50,000 billing hours (Baltimore SUN, 10/15).....Manhattan
Criminal Court Judge DONNA RECANT "declared a mistrial"
yesterday in the case of Manhattan resident CHARLOTTE VON
VOGT, who was put on trial for "harassing" CBS Sports
President SEAN MCMANUS. Recant made the decision "after
hearing a dire report from two court psychiatrists"
(NEWSDAY, 10/15). One juror, on Von Vogt: "We felt sorry
for her, but we feel even more sorry for Mr. McManus" (N.Y.

if the Univ. of NC can "continue to use" men's assistant

he awaits trial for a drunken-driving arrest. Hardin: "Can
UNC continue to send him into the homes of young men hoping
to go to Carolina to play basketball? Even if he isn't
