76ERS, RAVENS GETTING A JUMP ON THE OPPOSITION ON THE WEB?

The WALL STREET JOURNAL's David Sweet examined the
76ers' October 6 "Webcast," in which the team's practice
from UNC was broadcast live on the Internet, and he wrote
that the "video is not sharp -- players run in herky-jerky
motions." Sweet added that "during the Webcast, 76er brass
monitored chat rooms and realized visitors were unimpressed
by the video presentation." So for the last hour of
practice, the Webcast "focused more on" 76ers coach Larry
Brown, who was "miked," rather than the players. 76ers
Senior VP Dave Coskey: "We reacted to the (fan) comments.
You can't do that (as quickly) on TV or radio." Coskey
estimated the Webcast cost $2,500. Sweet added that last
summer, the Ravens had training camp Webcasts and wrote that
"perhaps because" Internet company PSINet handled it, "the
video is sharper than the 76ers footage -- player numbers
are more easily identified" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 10/12).
