LEAGUE NOTES

          GETTING A LIFT: In Denver, Adam Schefter reports that
     Broncos players received "gift packs" from the NFLPA
     yesterday that included jumper cables.  Broncos S Tyrone
     Braxton noted the $5,000 union dues each player pays: "I'd
     rather they just send me my money back.  I don't want this
     other stuff" (DENVER POST, 10/14).  Broncos DE Alfred
     Williams: "Jumper cables to jump-start our season.  They're
     about a week too late, though" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 10/14).
          WTA TOUR ATTENDANCE MARK: After 46 events, the WTA Tour
     has drawn 3,681,901 in '99, marking the fourth consecutive
     year attendance has increased.  This year's attendance
     record, up nearly 13% from last year's 3,675,049, has been
     set at the earliest point in WTA Tour history (WTA Tour).
          OAKLAND EYES SUPER BOWL: In Oakland, Laura Counts
     reported that the newly-formed Oakland-Alameda County Sports
     Commission will make a presentation during the NFL league
     meetings November 2 in Chicago to "land" the 2004 Super
     Bowl, other Super Bowls or to "attract" other events. 
     Zenophon Abraham leads the group (OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 10/13).
          LEAVING IT TO HIS BRO? ISC Chair & CEO Bill France, on
     the France family's investment in the newly-formed Grand
     American Road Racing Association series that debuts in 2000:
     "That really is my brother's [Jim] deal.  I'm involved very
     informally" (AUTOWEEK, 10/11 issue).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
