DETROIT HOCKEY CITY: ILITCH OPENS HOCKEY-THEMED RESTAURANT

Hockeytown Cafe, the latest venture of Red Wings/Tigers
Owner Mike Ilitch's Olympia Entertainment, hosts its grand-
opening today and in Detroit, Rene Wisely writes that the
24,000-square-foot themed restaurant "has focused as much
attention on the food as its splashy atmosphere." The menu
ranges from a $4.25 grilled cheese sandwich to a $21.95 beef
filet. Hockeytown Cafe GM Dan Linnen: "We're emphasizing
those special touches, too, from fresh ground burger patties
to homemade buns." Linnen said that the "impetus" for the
diversity was the clientele: "We had to respond to the
diverse crown in the theater district." The layout of the
restaurant features a bar on the first floor containing 25
TV sets, along with a casual dining area. The second floor
has a "quieter" dining room with Red Wing-logo embedded
carpeting. The third floor "remains" a dance bar with a DJ
housed in a penalty box (DETROIT NEWS, 10/14).
