NAMES & FACES: TITLEIST PAYING TIGER LESS, BUT GETTING LESS

While terms of Titleist's contract extension with Tiger
Woods were not released, GOLF WORLD BUSINESS reports that
the Titleist name "will not appear" on Woods' bag, and
Titleist "will not have the right to use" Woods' name or
likeness in its ads. In addition, Woods will play Titleist
clubs and golf balls for around $2M per year, "half of what
Titleist previously paid him" (GOLF WORLD BUSINESS, 10/15).
SHAQ'S GOT VIDEO GAME: Midway Games has signed a three-
year deal for Lakers C Shaquille O'Neal to be a spokesperson
for its "NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC" video game and work with
Midway on future games and marketing activities. O'Neal
will be involved in the game's packaging, TV spots, print
and online advertising and POP promotions (Midway).
EYE OPENER: Visine eye care products, a division of the
Consumer Health Care Group of Pfizer, has inked a deal
through 2001 to be the primary sponsor of the NASCAR BGN
team fielded by Reiser Enterprises. Matt Kenseth will drive
the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet in approximately 20 events. The
Consumer Health Care Group became a NASCAR sponsor with its
Barbasol shaving cream in '96 (SPEEDNET, 10/9). Petty Ent.,
General Mills and STP unveiled the newly designed No. 43
Cheerios/Betty Crocker Pontiac and the No. 43 STP Pontiac
that will compete on the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit in 2000.
John Andretti will drive the cars (General Mills).
STEWART'S OUTBURST CONCERNS SPONSOR: Home Depot, a
primary sponsor of NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, took notice
of Stewart's "outburst" against driver Kenny Irwin at
Martinsville Speedway earlier this month. Home Depot VP/PR
Carol Schumacher: "We recognize that Tony is a very
passionate individual. ... But, respect for all people is
very much a Home Depot value. I think Tony has heard that
not only from NASCAR and (car owner) Joe Gibbs but from Home
Depot that you need to treat fellow drivers with the same
respect that you want back" (NEWS & RECORD, 10/10).
