NAMES & FACES: ACUSHNET REUPS WOODS DEAL AND DROPS NIKE SUIT

          Acushnet, manufacturer of Titleist golf balls and golf
     clubs, and IMG have reached a new multi-year equipment deal
     with Tiger Woods.  Acushnet has also withdrawn its complaint
     against Nike alleging false advertising and contract
     interference involving Woods (See THE DAILY, 7/7) (IMG). 
     GOLFWEEK puts the agreement at five years (GOLFWEEK, 10/10).
          HAS JAMISON HIT A GOLDEN STATE? In S.F., Jorge Ortiz
     wrote that Warriors F Antawn Jamison "figures prominently"
     in the team's new ad campaign, as he is "the first player
     they mention when talking about better days ahead and the
     most visible one in their TV ad.  Clearly, he's being
     portrayed as the new face of the Warriors."  Ortiz wrote
     that Jamison comes across as "engaging and caring, confident
     yet deferential" (S.F. EXAMINER, 10/9).
          PECA TOPS THE BUFFALO MARKET: Sabres C Michael Peca and
     his wife Kristin are appearing together in a pair of 30-
     second TV ads for upstate NY supermarket Tops Markets.  The
     couple's contract with Tops "will also see them champion
     their favorite charity causes."  Tops spokesperson Stefanie
     Zakowicz, on the Pecas: "They really symbolize today's
     young, busy family" (BUFFALO NEWS, 10/8).
          MORE NAMES: In St. Paul, Robbi Pickeral wrote that the
     theme for Nike's "Fun Police" series came from T'Wolves F
     Kevin Garnett.  Garnett, on his relationship with Nike: "I
     have a lot of ideas for stuff I think is cool.  I have a lot
     of ideas just off the top of my dome, and they want to know
     them.  So I come in and talk to them about different things"
     (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 10/10)....CA-based Black Ice Golf
     has given Raymond Floyd a 10% equity stake in the company as
     part of his endorsement of their irons.  Black Ice Dir of
     Operations Bob Sillers: "This industry is driven by
     advertising.  I wish it wasn't, but it is.  People buy what
     tour players play" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 10/9).
