WARRIORS TO FIGHT $16M RULING; RAIDERS LOSE ONE IN COURT?

The Warriors said they would ask for a court review of
a $16M arbitration ruling issued by retired federal Judge
Eugene Lynch making them liable to Oakland and Alameda
County for premium seat revenue and unpaid rent at the New
Arena from '97-'99, according to Bonita Brewer of the CONTRA
COSTA TIMES. Warriors VP/Business Operations Robert Rowell
called it a "preliminary ruling that is subject to full
legal review by the courts." But city/county attorney Jon
Streeter said that awards in binding arbitration "are rarely
overturned by the courts." Meanwhile, Sacramento County
Judge Joe Gray ruled last week that the Raiders, in a
lawsuit with the city and county, "must provide various
financial statements, and that the public entities aren't
required to keep those documents secret." Raiders attorney
Ken Hausman, who said that the team is "considering" an
appeal: "Putting out the Raiders' financial information
publicly would be harmful to the Raiders in negotiating with
players and coaches" (CONTRA COSTA TIMES, 10/11).
