NAMES IN THE NEWS

          ELI BROAD has donated $100M to a "nationwide campaign
     to identify and cultivate innovations in urban school
     management" (L.A. TIMES, 9/26)....Public Financial
     Management's SAM KATZ, a GOP mayoral candidate in
     Philadelphia, was profiled in a three-part series by Infield
     & Fish of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER,
     9/26)....ANDRE AGASSI said he and STEFFI GRAF are not
     considering marriage at this time.  But Agassi said, "I've
     definitely made a conscious and focused attempt to pursue
     her, stopping short of stalking" (ET, 9/27)....In
     Philadelphia, Joan Mintz Ulmer profiled Flyers LW JOHN
     LECLAIR's "Face Off Against Hunger Program" and wrote that
     the effort "could provide" 3 million meals to "needy
     families."  Individuals and businesses have pledged almost
     $200,000 for every goal LeClair scores this season as part
     of the program (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 9/27).  Meanwhile,
     Brazilian soccer player RONALDO is participating in the
     United Nations Development Program For Its "TEAMS TO END
     POVERTY" campaign (USA TODAY, 9/28)....Amnesty Int'l USA
     recognized Reebok Chair PAUL FIREMAN for his work in
     bringing attention to human rights issues by presenting him
     the "Media Spotlight Award" at its third annual ceremony
     (Reebok).  REEBOK was listed among the COUNCIL OF
     INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS' list of underperforming companies. 
     The list names 20 firms that "most lagged" S&P 500 and "fell
     furthest behind their industry groups over one-, three- and
     five-year periods ended in July (USA TODAY, 9/28)....LPGA
     Tour Commissioner TY VOTAW, an OH Univ. alumnus, will speak
     to journalism students at the school today (LPGA Tour).
     ...SHAQUILLE O'NEAL said that he will endorse VP AL GORE in
     the 2000 Presidential campaign (AP, 9/28).
