COULD SECOND FRANCHISE SOON JOIN THE DUCKS IN THE POND?

The ABA 2000 has awarded a franchise in Anaheim (CA) to
a group of Phoenix investors led by attorney and business
exec Gary Elboggen, according to Bill Shaikin of the L.A.
TIMES, who reported that the franchise "announced its
intention" to play at Arrowhead Pond next year. However,
Pond Assistant GM Mike O'Donnell said that arena execs "have
yet to speak" with any of the team's investors. Elboggen
said that the team "would consider playing" at the Anaheim
Convention Center if "no agreement can be reached" with the
Pond. The franchise "hopes to draw" between 8,000-10,000
fans per game. Shaikin also reported that Pond officials
are "hoping potential buyers" of the Mighty Ducks "might
find an NBA team to buy as well, in whole or in part, and
move it" to Anaheim (L.A. TIMES, 9/25).
