QUAL-COMM KIDS GET SO MANY TICKETS? CHARGERS CAN'T SELL OUT

San Diego officials are "dipping into the city treasury
again" to buy unsold Chargers tickets to lift the TV
blackout for the team's home games, according to Philip
LaVelle of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. Those tickets are
then being distributed to county public school children as
part of the Chargers' Touchdown for Youth program. The city
has already spent $1.7M "or more to buy unsold tickets to
two preseason home games" at an average ticket price of $42,
and more tickets are being bought for Sunday's home opener
against the Colts. As of yesterday, county schools had
received "about" 15,000 tickets to that game. Season-to-
date, the city has purchased more than 40,000 unsold
tickets. Meanwhile, Chargers officials released their
current season-ticket sales numbers which indicated that the
team has sold 46,000 season tickets, down from 51,000 last
season. Team execs attributed the drop to the team's "poor
     performance" last year (S.D. UNION-TRIBUNE, 9/23).
