EVENT COULD BOLSTER CASE OF WASHINGTON-BALTIMORE 2012 GROUP

          The USOC's "Coach of the Year" awards event is drawing
     nearly 100 Olympic-level coaches, "along with dozens of
     other sports leaders," to the DC area, according to June
     Arney of the Baltimore SUN.  The three-day event is
     "expected to draw about 225 people to events" in DC and
     Annapolis, including "at least 15 members of National
     Governing Bodies" and officials who "will help choose a U.S.
     designated bid city for the 2012 Games."  Washington-
     Baltimore 2012 Coalition President & CEO Dan Knise added
     that the weekend will cost "more than $250,000, which
     includes an undisclosed portion" paid by the USOC, as well
     as $25,000 from accounting firm Arthur Anderson and $165,000
     from "another 27 local companies" (Baltimore SUN, 9/17).
