Nike "will produce about" 100 vests for no charge
"designed to hold" battery-operated radio transmitters worn
by Jamaican iguanas in order for researchers to track them,
according to Jenny Upchurch of the WICHITA EAGLE. Sedgwick
County (KS) Zoo Reptile Curator Karen Graham "volunteered
her three iguanas, among only 23 at six U.S. zoos," to test
the vests after she "thought" Nike's All Conditions Gear
"could design a vest tough enough to outlast the 18-month
batteries." The vest has a "stretchable, breathable mesh
upper and a polyurethane coated leather belly portion."
Nike Designer Damon Clegg said the company "went through six
rounds of prototypes" of the vest and added that the vest is
"not a product Nike thinks could have commercial
applications" (WICHITA EAGLE, 9/15).
COMING TO A THEATRE NEAR YOU? In Sacramento, Howard
Weaver wrote that a new Nike movie trailer featuring Ken
Griffey Jr. is "making a favorable impression on movie
audiences ... and observers think it could provide just the
opening [for movie theatre ad efforts] advertisers were
hoping for" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 9/13).
